Matthew Wolfenden, (born 1980 in Halifax, West Yorkshire) has been appearing as David Metcalfe since November 2006. Earlier in the year he had auditioned for the role of Eli Dingle, and was called back to audition as David, an unknown son to Eric Pollard.
Matthew had previously appeared in an episode of The Courtroom in 2004 and Hollyoaks: Let Loose in 2005. Since joining Emmerdale he appeared in the second series of Soapstar Superstar in 2008 (coming 9th) and All Star Family Fortunes in 2010.
In 2008 he began courting co-star CHARLEY WEBB, and they have a son, Buster, born 3 April 2010.
Keen on sport, Matthew used to be in the British gymnastics squad until a back injury when practising on the rings caused his career to change direction. He still partakes in sporting events for charity, and is appearing in the seventh series of Dancing on Ice in 2012.
